DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - The scene is clear in Canal Park after a hazmat situation closed a road and forced evacuations Wednesday morning.
The DFD announced that there is no ongoing public safety issue stemming from the incident.
Crews arrived around 9:29 a.m. to reports of possible chlorine gas presence at the Suites Hotel in Canal Park, where they evacuated staff and residents as a precaution to evaluate the scene further.
According to authorities, the first floor and basement were evacuated, while some residents were allowed to shelter in place while crews monitored air quality during the incident.
The city asked that people stay away from the area until further notice to allow crews space to safely work.
Northern News Now spoke to an employee in Canal Park who confirmed
