(CNN) - More than 1,000 current and former employees of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services are demanding that Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. resign.

A letter sent to Kennedy and Congress said the secretary’s leadership has “put the health of all Americans at risk.”

This follows the Trump administration’s ousting of recently confirmed CDC director, Dr. Susan Monarez.

She had refused to bend to pressure from top HHS officials to sign off on potential new vaccine restrictions, according to people familiar with the matter.

Resignations of four other senior officials at the public health agency followed.

In the letter, the employees also cited the appointment of those they call “political ideologues” to influential roles in vaccine policy.
