BURLINGTON, Ky. — The Boone County Sheriff's Office identified the wounded deputies from the Aug. 28 shooting at 13167 Service Road in Walton, Kentucky, as Jerald "Mitchell" Wilmes and Kyle D. Florer.

Wilmes, 30, has been with the Boone County Sheriff's Office since 2018, according to a release. He is a field training officer and member of the SWAT team. He sustained gunshot wounds to both of his legs and was released from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center Aug. 29.

Florer, 30, joined the Sheriff's Office in July, and Wilmes was training him at the time of the shooting. He began his law enforcement career in 2020, first serving with the Pendleton County Sheriff's Office, then the Falmouth Police Department. He was released from the hospital Sept. 1.
