The London area posted its strongest August since the height of the market during the COVID-19 years, the clearest sign yet that local buyers are finally jumping back into the market despite the ongoing trade war with the U.S.

A total of 616 homes changed hands last month in the local market, which also includes Strathroy, St. Thomas, and portions of Middlesex and Elgin counties, the London and St. Thomas Association of Realtors (LSTAR) reported Wednesday.

It represents the best August since 2021, when 925 homes were sold and remains the best month on record for the region. It also comes on the heels of the best July since 2021, when the market was at its peak and before the Bank of Canada began raising interest rates in early 2022, bringing home sales to a near halt.
