LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A local organization is stepping in to help Laredo residents navigate the sometimes complex process of homeownership.

NeighborWorks Laredo will host two workshops in November aimed at assisting homeowners with property planning and tax exemptions, the organization announced Wednesday.

Elizabeth Alonzo-Villarreal, with NeighborWorks, said one of the workshops focuses on preparing a Transfer on Death Deed, or TODD. The deed allows homeowners to transfer property to a designated beneficiary without going through probate court.

“This is an opportunity for you to get your affairs in order, and it’s free of cost if you meet certain income guidelines,” Alonzo-Villarreal said, noting that attorney fees typically totaling around $3-5,000 will be waived.
