LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - According to a newly enacted Texas law, students must receive parental consent before visiting the school nurse or counselor.

Senate Bill 12, also known as the Parent Bill of Rights, now requires parental permission before students can utilize various school services and participate in extracurricular activities.

Rebecca Hinojosa, a mother of three in Laredo, understands the intent behind the new law, but believes it is somewhat extreme, especially when it comes to basic services. She stated, “The way the school explained it to me was that even to give them a band aid, the nurses would have that need that form filled out. I don’t really think they need it in that sense.”
