ALTO, Texas — A former Cherokee County corrections officer has been arrested after she was accused of bringing prohibited substances into a correctional facility.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Kayley Garcia, 34, of Alto, was arrested and booked into Cherokee County Jail on Wednesday. She is charged with three counts of prohibited substance/item in a correctional facility, all of which are third-degree felonies.

Garcia worked as a correctional officer in Cherokee County Jail from June 2025 to August 2025. It was discovered she was bringing contraband to inmates while on-duty.

Over the course of an investigation, Garcia was found to be providing tobacco products to inmates, and provided her personal cell phone to an inmate for personal use.
