Hazen High School entered into a temporary school lockout Tuesday after receiving a report of possible gunfire nearby, the Renton Police Department (RPD) confirmed.

Officers were called to Hoquiam Avenue after a 911 caller reported that people inside two vehicles allegedly exchanged gunfire. Other witnesses reported sounds of cars racing and a possible backfire. Due to these reports, the campus went into lockdown as a precaution.

The vehicles in question left the scene before officers could arrive.

Officers are responding to a report of possible shots fired in the 1200-1300 blk Hoquiam Ave. The 911 caller reported people from 2 cars exchanged gunfire. Other witnesses reported cars racing and a backfire. The cars were gone when officers arrived. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/IQQsBLL08Q
