HELENA — It's not easy to win back-to-back state championships in Class AA football.

Missoula Sentinel was the last team to do it. It's far too early to rule out a second straight title for the Capital Bruins, but they did get a rude awakening on the road last week from Great Falls CMR.

The Rustlers, who have been down on their luck in recent years, with their last winning season coming in 2021, notched an eye-opening 28-14 win over Capital in Week 1 under head coach AJ Wilson, a former Bruin.

CMR moved into the top five of the first 406 MT Sports high school football rankings for 2025 this week, and looking ahead to Week 2, which includes some Thursday night football, we start in Missoula, where the Rustlers are headed.
