FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) -- The Florence Police Department is urging people to lock their car doors after a series of car break-ins within the last two weeks.

“Over the last 2 weeks, we’ve had about 15 reports of car burglaries,” said Joshua Meza with FPD.

Meza said the culprits are unknown and that it's an easy crime, with how many people don't lock their car doors.

“A majority of the reports that we have gotten have been from people pulling on door handles in the car being unlocked and then that person going inside and stealing the valuables from inside that vehicle,” Meza said.

Meza says it's also a security concern, because out of the 15 reports, four guns have been stolen, as well as jewelry, money and credit cards.
