MT. VERNON, Iowa (KCRG) - Curt Ritchie spent 32 years as a high school football coach in Iowa. 24 of those were most recently at Williamsburg. Now he’s the head coach of Cornell College.
Making the jump surprised former players of his, like Iowa linebacker, Derek Weisskopf.
“I was super surprised. I thought he would stick it out in Williamsburg and end it there. But I’m happy for him. He obviously wanted to do it at some point,” said Weisskopf.
Ritchie’s reason for doing it is simple.
“Had chances to do it when I was younger. I decided not to do it because of family reasons. Now the kids are all out of the house and they basically don’t need me anymore. I needed something to do I guess. I got bored and just wanted a new challenge,” said Ritchie.
