SURREY, N.D. (KMOT) - The Surrey Public School Board approved a plan Wednesday night to buy out former Superintendent David Gerding’s contract.
At a special board meeting, the board talked about a negotiation strategy.
They voted to buy out the remainder of Gerding’s base salary and pay 43 of his 53 days of vacation in two different tax years.
The board also voted to pay health coverage for a single dependent for as long as his contract is good for, or until he becomes eligible for new healthcare coverage elsewhere, whichever comes first.
According to the board, Luke Schaefer from the Central Regional Education Association (CREA) currently serves as the interim superintendent for the district.
They also said they plan to post the job opening at the end of this calendar year.
