QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Animal shelters in the city have been over capacity this summer, and the next season usually brings in more pets.

A shelter in Queens is networking with other locations around the region and country to save as many dogs and cats as they can.

NYC Second Chance Rescue creates new lives for abandoned and abused animals.

The Second Chance Rescue facility fills two floors of the entire building on 37th Avenue.

Currently, 35 cats call it home, and there’s room for 12 large dogs.

Co-founder Jennifer Brooks said this location opened in 2023 in Long Island City to connect to a larger base of volunteer and foster homes.

“We need foster homes that clear up space, and we can save more lives. If you’re not sure of a lifetime commitment, foster and see how it goes,” she say
