SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - City Utilities leaders will appear before the Springfield City Council next week to discuss a proposed rate change.

The utility is seeking a 3% average increase on April 1, 2027. And an additional 3.6% average increase in April of 2028. This has our viewer, Donna, asking: What is City Utilities doing with all the money they’re saving by not having meter readers?

Like most utility companies across the country, CU installed smart meters in the past few years. The electric switch over wrapped up in 2020. And CU says crews finished installing the advanced gas and water meters in 2023.
