MENOMONIE, Wis. — A Wisconsin woman seeking a new murder trial had that request denied on Wednesday.

Ezra McCandless was convicted of the 2018 killing of her ex-boyfriend, Alex Woodworth. That case drew national attention when details emerged about their relationship, and McCandless's relationship with another man around the same time. The testimony was described as "bizarre" and "salacious" as questions were asked about their sex lives on the witness stand.

The case stems from March 22, 2018, when McCandless showed up at a stranger's home in rural Dunn County, covered in mud and bleeding with torn clothes. Court documents say she told the homeowner she was attacked, but didn't remember what happened.

Investigators found her vehicle and the body of Woodworth, who was stabbed 16 times.
