AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF) - Lots of high hopes Wednesday night as the Powerball Jackpot soars to more than a billion dollars.

Millions of people at gas stations around the country are buying lottery tickets hoping to win big.

One Augusta resident, Joshua Harris, is hoping he has beginners luck. He says he's buying a ticket for the very first time.

“I know there’s a very small chance that I win but the feeling of getting a whole lot of money at one time is still pretty crazy, so I got butterflies in my stomach,” said Harris.

The odds of winning are 1 in almost 300 million, Harris tells me the first thing he would do with the money.

“I would pay off my student loans, I would pay off my fiancée's student loans, and then any other debt that my family has and then from there it would be a pretty
