ATHENS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- There aren't many things worse than a bad smell in the air where you call home. That's the case for some residents in a Capital Region community, and local officials gave an update as to what’s causing the odor and how they are working to fix it.

“I was, like, 'What is that smell? It smells outside,'” said Cristee Place, who lives directly behind the Peckham Asphalt Resale Corporation in the town of Athens with her husband and young daughter. That's where many in town say the smell comes from.

“It's always been a thing," Steven Place said. "I'd say it's picked up in the last few years."

Officials with Peckham spoke to the community on Wednesday to address their concerns.
