LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Nearly two weeks have passed since a man was rescued from a drainage pipe near the Outlet Shoppes at Laredo. Since then, the city has discussed how to properly secure these drain pipes to prevent this from happening again.

During a Laredo City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 2, Ricardo Gonzalez from the Laredo Police Department presented on the security measures being implemented. This discussion was prompted by Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino’s request to address the safety risks posed by large sewer pipes.

According to Gonzalez, the pipes are secured by a locked metal grate. He stated, “They’re all secured in collaboration with U.S. border patrol, our engineering department, public works and environmental. We make sure that all these piping systems have
