MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT) — Williamston police say Rasool "Omar" Allen died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a standoff with police at the Oyo Hotel in Williamston.

Allen was wanted for Attempted First Degree Murder in the Charlotte area. After an investigation by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, they found he was staying in Williamston. Officers found him at the Oyo Hotel on Wednesday morning.

When Williamston police attempted to serve the warrant, they spoke with Allen by phone. Officers say Allen agreed to surrender, but never left the hotel room.

After hours of attempted negotiation, the Greenville Police Department Emergency Response Team was called in for assistance. Officers later made entry into the room and found Allen dead from what appears to be a self-
