SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation says that a mass shooting is when one or more people are actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people. While the FBI doesn’t have a set number of victims, the Investigative Assistance for Violent Crimes Act of 2012 defines a “mass killing” as “3 or more in a single incident.”

The Mass Shooting Tracker says there have been 349 mass shootings in the United States so far this year.

The Gun Violence Archive shows that in 2024, there were 503 mass shooting in the country. Of those shootings, more than 3,200 children between the ages of 12 and 17 were injured and 1,171 were killed due to gun violence. During that same time, children ages 0-11 accounted for 547 injuries and 250 deaths.
