It was the late 1990s when a group of ladies from Lutheran Church of the Cross visited St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church where quilts made for children with AIDS were on display. Inspired, the ladies began thinking they could do the same thing. Calling themselves the Dorcas Quilters — after the woman in Acts 9 who was known for her charity, good works and making clothing for the poor — they’re still going strong 28 years later.

It was the late 1990s when former U.S. Congressman Glenn Poshard was looking to start his next chapter. After serving for more than four-and-a-half years as a state senator in the Illinois General Assembly and 10 years in Congress, he’s lost his bid in his run for Illinois governor in 1999. He and his wife Jo thought, “What are we going to do now?”
