A streetcar derailed in Lisbon, Portugal, on Wednesday, killing at least 15 people and injuring about 18.
Several were seriously injured in the Portuguese capital, known for its streetcars, which are a prime tourist attraction.
The accident is the worst in the city's recent history. It's unclear how many foreigners or Americans were injured.
The wrecked streetcar is colored yellow and white and was named the Elevador da Gloria. It operates up and down a steep downtown hill in the city and is classified as a national monument.
Witnesses say the streetcar went down the hill without control and ended up on its side. The sides and top of the car were damaged, and the car appeared to have crashed into a building where the road bends. Several parts of the metal vehicle were crushed.
