Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport leaders have been notified that Spirit Airlines will be ending service there on October 3.

The decision comes after Spirit Airlines filed for bankruptcy in August for the second time.

The carrier began service in Birmingham in October 2024 initially with non-stop flights to Fort Lauderdale before expanding to encompass flights to Newark, New Jersey and Detroit, Michigan.

According to a press release, a spokesperson for Spirit Airlines said that customers who have booked flights after the end-of-service date on October 3 will be notified via email about the change.

This email will also include information on how to get refunds.
