HOUSTON (KIAH) – Gonzalo Leon Jr., the man accused of fatally shooting 11-year-old Julian Guzman Sunday night over what has been described as a game of "ding dong ditch," appeared in court on Wednesday.

The Harris County Criminal Court judge granted Leon, 42, a $1 million bond. Leon had been charged with murder on Monday, Houston police confirmed.

In the courtroom, prosecutors explained that Guzman and his 10-year-old cousin were walking home from a family party when they decided to play ding dong ditch at Leon's home. A ding-dong-ditch prank, often a pastime of neighborhood children, involves ringing a doorbell and running away before the resident can open the door.
