A Queensland policeman has been accused of possessing and distributing child exploitation material north of Brisbane.

The officer is reportedly a 40-year-old sergeant in the North Coast region, which takes in the Moreton, Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay Burnett areas.

He was charged with three counts of possessing child exploitation material and one count of distributing child exploitation material.

The 40-year-old was hit with four charges relating to the allegations.

The alleged crimes were reportedly all committed while off-duty.

The policeman has been suspended and is due to appear at Sandgate Magistrates Court on September 11.

An official statement said the charges were made public to ensure “high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability.”
