100 Years Ago, 1925: An experimental order of 150 steel railroad ties, differing radically in design from the rolled Carnegie shape, which up to the present time has been the only sell tie commercially put on the market, has been completed by the Sun Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company for the Hunter Railway Equipment Company of New York. The order is reported to be an advance lot of an order for several thousands of the ties, which will be tried out on several of the large railroads in the country.
