LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Henrietta Dean has lived in Louisville’s West End all her life and loves her family and the community.

“I want the best for my grandkids and for my area," said Dean, a volunteer and board member at Sanctuary of Sisters Women's Day Shelter . "One way of doing that is for me to reach out and do what I can do to make it better."

She has volunteered at the shelter since before it opened in June , helping fold clothes and with other volunteer duties.

“I cook,” Dean said with a laugh and a smile. “I cook, and I make sure it’s home-cooked because food is important.”

Located at 18 th and Oak Street, the shelter is a safe place for any woman, especially those who are survivors of human trafficking, are battling addiction or just need to rest from the streets.
