PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Education leaders in Providence are celebrating a win as Providence Public Schools said they lead the state in battling chronic absenteeism.

In a release, PPSD said state data for class-cutting went from 36.2 percent to 29.3 percent in just one school year.

The 2021 to 2022 school year, for reference, had a high of 57 percent.

In a statement, Governor Dan McKee said, “Providence’s progress shows what’s possible when students, families, and educators work together,” referring to the state’s “Attendance Matters” campaign.
