Gov. Tony Evers included Door County as one of six Wisconsin counties for which he requested a disaster declaration from President Donald Trump in response to tens of millions of dollars in damages sustained from the fierce storms and flooding rains that belted parts of the state Aug. 9.

The formal request Evers made Aug. 27 would enable local governments and certain types of private nonprofit organizations in those six counties to apply for the Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance Program , which provides supplemental grants for work such as cleanup and infrastructure repair to help them respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies.
