A Roseville man convicted of manslaughter in the 2024 death of his group home roommate has been sentenced, officials said.

Mark Joseph Newsome, 55, was given 5-15 years in prison on Wednesday by a Macomb County Circuit Court Judge, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said.

"This tragic case underscores the responsibility we all share to resolve conflict without resorting to violence," Lucido said in a statement on Wednesday. "While today’s sentence brings accountability, there are no winners when a life is lost. We hope this outcome serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, patience, and safety in shared living environments."

Newsome's attorney, Mark C. Haddad, was not immediately available for comment on Thursday.
