WASHINGTON — The National Guard confirms troops in DC have had their orders extended through December. It comes amid a push to shape the District's criminal justice system on Capitol Hill. Right now, House lawmakers are considering several big changes.

One of those changes would essentially remove D.C.'s locally elected Attorney General Brian Schwalb. Schwalb just announced he will be running for reelection on Wednesday. According to the Washington Post , the bill would replace the locally elected attorney general and replace them with a presidential appointee who would not need Senate approval. That would give President Donald Trump new power over juvenile justice in the District.
