Angela Rayner's new flat on the south coast has been daubed with graffiti amid an escalating row over her tax affairs .

The £800,000 property in Hove, East Sussex, was vandalised overnight - with graffiti branding her a "Tax Evader".

It comes after the Ashton-under-Lyne MP admitted underpaying stamp duty on the property.

The Stockport-born deputy prime minister and housing secretary referred herself to standards adviser Sir Laurie Magnus after receiving fresh legal advice that she was liable for the extra duty.

It is understood Ms Rayner was not in the flat at the time it was vandalised, the Mirror reports .

One message scrawled on the property reads: "Tax Evader Rayner!" Ano
