Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is testifying Thursday before the Senate Finance Committee on President Trump's health care agenda amid controversy over the firing last week of CDC Director Susan Monarez and other high-level departures.
A number of congressional Democrats have called for Kennedy to resign or be fired over the mass exodus.
Some congressional Republicans have also questioned the moves at the department. Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, who was a key vote in advancing Kennedy's nomination as secretary, called on HHS last week to " indefinitely postpone " a scheduled vaccine advisory committee meeting. He said the CDC departures "will require oversight by the HELP Committee," which he chairs.
