FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Summer strawberry plantings hit a new record in California this year.

The state's Strawberry Commission reports more than 11,500 crops were planted.

That's up almost 3 percent from last year.

California also produces the popular fruit in the fall and early winter.

Ag experts say the upward trend in fall-producing acreage reflects strong demand from September to November.
