The Jenny Creek Fire of summer 2023 got within about a mile of playwright David Bareford’s home in north Clark County, and his family prepared to evacuate.
“You’re faced with the question of, what do we take? What’s important? It makes you reassess all your priorities,” Bareford said. “It’s a fascinating feeling. There is no right answer.”
Bareford never had to evacuate, fortunately, but the characters in his new historical play face similar questions and hard choices as they confront crop failure, debt, heartbreak and, ultimately, the massive Yacolt Burn forest fire of September 1902.
Woodland’s Love Street Playhouse is staging performances of Bareford’s “There’s Still Snow on Silver Star” from Sept. 12 to Oct. 5.
