Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell continues to lead campaign fundraising in the race to become the state’s next attorney general, maintaining an edge over his two Republican opponents.

Katherine Robertson, chief counsel for Attorney General Steve Marshall, and Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey are the other contenders in next year’s Republican primary, set for May 19.

The winner will succeed Marshall, who has been attorney general since 2017 and is running for the U.S. Senate.

On Wednesday, the candidates filed their campaign reports for August.
