ATLANTA — The Georgia GOP has called for using hand-marked paper ballots as a pilot test in this year's upcoming elections for the state Public Service Commission.

A response by Charlene McGowan, the general counsel for the Georgia Secretary of State's Office, says such a pilot is "not authorized under Georgia law."

The call by Georgia GOP Chair Josh McKoon follows on President Donald Trump's endorsement of the voting method while decrying voting machines and mail-in voting. McKoon also shared a letter from two Republican state representatives sent to Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger endorsing the pilot use of hand-marked paper ballots this year.
