A federal appeals court upheld longstanding Iowa restrictions barring people convicted of forcible felonies from owning firearms, rebuking an argument that the law is unconstitutional.
Anthony Browne, 54, of Iowa City, sued Gov. Kim Reynolds and Johnson County Sheriff Brad Kunkel in the Iowa District Court for Johnson County in 2023 in an attempt to challenge the state's ban.
Browne told Iowa Capital Dispatch at the time that he wanted to be able to own and use firearms to hunt, protect his home and go target shooting with his father, a former Linn County Sheriff.
