STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Sorry to spoil the party, but it appears last Saturday’s Battle of the Borough Rivalry Edition game between Curtis and St. Peter’s wasn’t the first time the storied rivals met on the gridiron.

Thanks to some heavy digging by Tom McNamara, the former Curtis football player, JV head coach and football historian, it appears the Warriors and Eagles played at least one other time nearly a century ago.

McNamara, whose brother Peter is a former Curtis player and current varsity defensive line coach, did some excellent sleuthing while searching for information about the Warriors’ football program. 48
