Part of what sets Strange New Worlds apart from other live-action Star Trek series that have been released since Paramount revived the franchise’s TV branch is a commitment to self-contained episodes. Each season has had some running storylines that it’s returned to — Spock’s various romantic entanglements, for instance — and Pike’s knowledge that he’s fated to be grievously injured in an accident has been part of the series’ background all along. But Strange New Worlds has never been serialized in quite the same way as Star Trek: Discovery or, especially, Star Trek: Picard , the latter of which essentially told one big story each season.
