A man shot by Mobile police during a Wednesday afternoon standoff has died, the department announced Thursday.
On Wednesday, at about 1:45 p.m., officers responded to the 4200 block of Bayfront Road in reference to a “disorderly” man inside of a home.
Upon arrival, the man, identified as Woodrow Meservey, allegedly fired a shot out of the home. SWAT, the Crisis Intervention Team, and other units arrived on scene.
Meservey, 49, allegedly fired additional shots towards officers, and that’s when officers fired back injuring the man, the department said.
“After more than two hours and the subject exiting the home and firing at my officers, they were left with no choice but to engage him,” Police Chief William Jackson said.
