As some locals may have found, Victoria is the third least affordable city in Canada for renters, according to a report from thinktank the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA).
The CCPA’s “rental wage” report examined how much a person would need to earn to only spend 30 per cent of their income on rent, based on average rent prices according to the latest Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s rental market survey, taken in October 2024.
The CCPA found that Victorians would have to make an average of $29.38 per hour to afford a one-bedroom unit in the region, or $38.33 to afford a two-bedroom, making it the third most unaffordable city in the country.
The least affordable city was Vancouver, where a person would need to make an hourly wage of $37.84 to afford a one-bedroom
