PALATKA, Fla. (WCJB) - Several schools were placed on a modified lockdown in Palatka on Thursday morning after reports of a person with a knife.
Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies say a modified lockdown was issued to Palatka Junior-Senior High School, Mellon Learning Center, and Children’s Reading Center Charter School. Additionally, St. Johns River State College was placed on a modified lockdown.
Law enforcement officers are searching for a man possibly armed with a knife and have placed the schools on a modified lockdown. There is no immediate threat to the schools, and the incident didn’t occur on any of the campuses.
Authorities are asking the community to stay out of the area if possible in the area of St. Johns Avenue, Pine Needle Circle, State Road 19, and 100.
