LAWRENCE — Kansas football coach Lance Leipold has long felt the excitement around the Jayhawks’ fan base about the renewal of the Missouri rivalry, and that hasn’t changed in recent days.

Not only has it come up as Leipold has made his way into the facility, but when he and his wife were at church this past weekend, it did as well. Someone at church wanted to talk to him about it there, too, saying, “Kick their butt,” without saying butt. Given the setting, he wasn’t sure how appropriate that was.

But again, the point is people have had Saturday’s game in Columbia, Missouri, circled on their calendars for a long time, and Leipold thinks it’s part of what makes college football what it is — as long as they’re able to handle it the right way and settle things on the field. While he’s t
