Many Alberta RCMP detachments leveled up their road monitoring over the Labour Day long weekend, and the results showed.

Between August 29 and September 1, the Alberta RCMP issued a total of 1661 traffic safety infractions.

Of the 1661 tickets, just under 800 of them were for speeding. 34 tickets were issued for distracted driving and 19 were made for not wearing a seatbelt.

Additionally, 99 impaired drivers were removed from the roads.

During the long weekend, there were 54 collisions across the province, resulting in four deaths.

“Fatal motor vehicle collisions are often avoidable,” says Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic, “and we are reminded of this every long weekend when lives are lost due to factors such as drugs, alcohol, and speeding.”
