Our foregardeners would look for the biggest and best of the current harvest, and instead of eating those specimens first, would painstakingly collect, clean, dry, and store the seedy prizes for the next season.

They knew that by saving and growing the best, nature would likely improve the variety over time.

They’d also trade with neighbors and hand down their curated collection to the next generation.
