Shu Qi ‘s directorial debut “ Girl ” anchors Taiwan’s TIFF presence with its North American premiere in the prestigious Centrepiece program. The emotionally nuanced coming-of-age story is gaining significant festival attention, positioning the actor-turned-filmmaker as a major new directorial voice in Taiwanese cinema.

“Not only Taiwanese films but films all over the world face the same challenges in the market,” Shu Qi tells Variety . “So don’t overthink it. If you have the opportunity to make a film, seize it, tell your story and tell it right.”
