GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Right-handed pitching prospect and former Gator Brandon Sproat received his call for his major league debut on Wednesday. He will make his debut against the Reds this weekend.
SNY’s MLB Insider Andy Martino was the first to report Thursday morning that Sproat was in “strong consideration” for a start this upcoming weekend. Specifically with the belief of him starting on Sunday.
Sproat, 24, is coming off one of his best starts of the season with Triple-A Syracuse, firing 2.0 shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking two and striking out nine.
He relies heavily on a four-seam fastball that sits in the mid-to-upper 90s and touches 100 mph. But also has a sinker, sweeper and change up.
After facing the Reds over the weekend, the Mets head to Philadelphia
