Just a day before she was set to return to her office, an appeals court judge has temporarily stayed the court-ordered reinstatement of Cannabis Commission Chair Shannon O’Brien as the State Treasurer works to see the lower court’s decision overturned.
O’Brien, the head of the commission responsible for the state’s booming legal marijuana industry, was officially fired by State Treasurer Deb Goldberg last September.
Earlier this week a Massachusetts Superior Court Judge ordered her reinstatement “effective immediately” after finding the Treasurer, who had appointed O’Brien in the first place, failed to demonstrate that allegations of impropriety levied against the chair amounted to sufficient cause to see her removed prematurely.
