HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Deputies responded to an unusual crash late Wednesday night in Adams County.

Around 11:30 p.m., the Adams County Sheriff’s Office was called out to a crash after a vehicle struck an animal on Highway 6, a couple miles east of Kenesaw.

You may have seen images of the animal on social media that looks like a kangaroo.

Chief Deputy Kevin Mauck said it was actually more like a wallaby.

He said the animal was a pet to a resident in Adams County.

The animal had gotten out of its enclosure, made its way to the highway, where it was struck and killed.

The scene was cleared around 1 a.m.

The sheriff’s office said they initially had called out game and parks but after learning who the owner was, they notified them Thursday morning.
